Curly Hair

So for Kylee's upcoming dance recital the directions say they need to have curly hair. This performance is the "12 Dancing Princesses". She said in her class they are the faries. So with Heather's suggestion I went out and bought some sponge curlers yesterday and last night put her hair in curlers. She was so paranoid that people would laugh at her...she doesn't like new things with her hair.

This is the final product. She liked jumping around and feeling the curls bounce. Next time I practice I will also put in the mousse that was suggested to see if the curls will be a little more defined. I may also buy one more package so I don't have as much hair in each curler. I don't think she realized at the time that she would be going to school with her hair this way but I told her that her teacher would think it was cute...good thing the teacher did comment, it made her feel better.

Pictures are this coming Monday so I had to hurry and try it out at least once. I will probably try again tomorrow night (that way she won't have to do the school thing again). Hopefully we don't have some of the curlers fall out again during the night.

More fun in the trenches!!

So this first picture is from the week before (in April still) after finishing our gravel bed up top with the pipe in the garden still exposed.

From here down is this past weekend, the one mom and dad came over and helped us with. With their help we were able to get the garden buried, dad shaped the slope next to the rock wall so we could begin laying down rocks (didn't get a picture of the smooth area..wish I had), got the weed guard down, all the rocks layed down in the trench to form our dry river bed, and then gravel layered on top to fill in the gaps and the drain completed. As you can see we got lots done today. Thanks mom and dad!! We all got our upper body workout hauling the rocks to form our dry river bed. And our rock pile next to the fence went down tons!

Garden filled in:

Weed guard down and the first layers of rocks starting to go in (we are on break right now...Jon at top of trench):

Closer view of rocks going in:

Mom and dad on break:

Rocks in trench as far as we can go until we finish the drain. Looks good we think. We will form a burm or mound on the right side to help with directing the water in the trench. And we will line more rocks on that side...but that will be a lot easier.

A view after we put gravel in the bottom to fill the voids:

Hopefully we will be able to get rock piles moved out and the mounds of dirt moved...then we will be done with the trench! Probably won't be able to get it all done this next weekend. But if the equipment that we were told we could borrow actually appears then we might actually get a bunch of it done. We will just need to save some rocks to finish the other side of the trench. Stay tuned.....

Bedtime routine

So I got tired of always telling them what needed to be next during their bedtime routine. So I finally made a little schedule (I call it a chart for lack of a better term) for them. So now all I tell them is what go look at your chart. So far it is working. Every night Kylee will spell what is on hers and then kind of guess at what it says. If she guesses correctly she gets all excited and says she isn't even in kindergarten and she can read.

They make it a contest at night to see who can get done first. We'll see how long the newness of this lasts. But hey, so far it has worked. It definately isn't anything fancy, but they like them. Since this picture was taken they have since decorated their butterflies and also put the bubble for words next to each like they are saying something.

Easter

We did things a little out of order. We decorated our Easter Eggs on the Tuesday after Easter due to a yard project we are working on. However, the kids enjoyed decorating them anyway. There were stickers they were supposed to be able to stick on the eggs, but they wouldn't stick. So we just colored them.

Easter morning. They got candy (or course) and little pinwheel thing, Easter dresses, and some jewelry. Then the Easter Bunny brought a couple family games for us (since we hardly have any).

Very happy to say that both girls loved their Easter dresses. We were worried a little bit about what one of the girls reactions would be...but they were both happy (yea!!!). The both got a necklace and bracelet to go with them.
