OEK

Friday (January 25) the principal at the school I work at asked me to come into her office after I checked out.  She and my "boss" came in but they were both quick to tell me I wasn't in trouble lol.  Anyway, Mrs. Holbrook said they are making tons of changes due to people quitting and wanted to keep things in house.  So she asked me if I would be interested in taking over the OEK teacher aide position.  I jumped on that offer. I sub in there quite often so I know the kids and pretty well know most of the routine so I know what I am in for.  I would be in there most days from 11:15 - 2:15, then bus duty for 15 minutes and then my normal double dosing for 1 hr.  So I would get a little over 4 hours every day.  I was told that Mrs. Holbrook already had talked to the kindergarten teacher and she is excited to get me in as well. The person I am replacing applied for the office job and got that.

As of right now the contract goes through the end of this school year and they are hoping they get another grant to continue the class again next year.  We will see what next year brings.

Freezing Rain

Today we had a freezing rain.  Of course it hit in the morning time for commuting purposes.  The news is saying it is a once in a 30 year event for Utah.  I'm sure it wasn't nearly as bad as other states get but it was slippery enough.  It took Jon a little over 2 hours to get to work.  He said he passed about 4 accidents on the way in.  I watched the news during commute time and traffic looked absolutely awful.  Didn't look like it was really moving.

The poor kids this morning. As soon as Brittany went down the front steps I told her to head to the snow, which she did, but as soon as her foot hit the sidewalk, down she went.  She went directly back to the snow to walk the rest of the way to the bus.  She did make it farther than Kylee though. I had told both girls to hold onto the railing as they went down the steps (Brittany did).  However, Kylee touched it and then let go and stepped right to the middle of the top stair.  As soon as she touched the first step she went down hard and slid or more bounced down the rest of the way on her back end. She then crawled over to the snow area and walked to the corner of the yard through the snow.  But as soon as she got her first step on the sidewalk, down she went again.  Then everytime she found a sidewalk or the road she went down again, all the way to the bus stop.  She was quick to jump up and say "I'm ok".

The rest of the neighborhood didn't fare as well either.  There were many people in the neighborhood who had to run their cars into curbs in order to prevent themselves from hitting another car that was parked on the side of the road.  One lady couldn't make it back up the hill to her house so she left her truck on the side of the road, where it was not to long later hit by the sand truck trying to get our roads sanded.  Apparently the sand truck couldn't keep traction either.  The garbage truck had to pull over to put his chains on to get around our neighborhood because he was sliding around to much.  Apparently he still slid with his chains on.  There were cops and construction workers in our neighborhood trying to help with one of the accidents (possibly the above mentioned truck) and they kept falling down as well as everyone else.  The cops cars were sliding down the street with their brakes on as well and had a hard time stopping.  I watched a couple kids go back across a street to help a younger child go across because she couldn't stay on her feet.

Fun morning commute.

Fortunately for me by the time I had to go over to the school at about 11:00 the roads were much better.  Our driveway was still pure ice and the parking lot where I parked was ice.  But everywhere else I walked or drove was just fine.

Activities for our Saturday

Today Jon took Brittany and her friend Tabitha Washburn to lunch at Arby's and then to the Living Planet Aquarium.  Brittany was so excited to be able to invite a friend.  She had an absolute blast as well as her little friend Tabitha.  I am glad she had fun and was able to spend the day with her dad.

While Brittany was at the Living Planet Aquarium Kylee was able to attend a birthday party for her friend Zach Sorenson.  She had another birthday party last weekend as well.  So the last two weeks have been a little busy with birthdays.  At the party they went sledding for a while, then made crafts out of marshmallows, had hot chocolate, and cupcakes.  She said it was very fun.

I got to spend the time between sending Jon and Brittany off and then Kylee to myself. I got to work on whatever I wanted to do.  It was very nice.

Great to be 8

Kylee is turning 8 this year.  I can't believe how fast the years have gone.  Tonight Kylee had her "Great to be 8" primary meeting.  There are 18 kids that will be turning 8 this year.

She was very excited to go to this meeting, especially for the refreshments, she kept asking me if there would be any.  They had the kids do a fill in the blank paper about being baptized.  All the kids got to go up front and sit in the chairs around the font while the speakers spoke to them.  All the parents had to send a picture of their child from baby-1 year to be used for a presentation during the program.  Little did we know that it would be us parents presenting their children.  But it worked out ok.

Kylee will not be baptized or be able to join Activity Days until November, but she is excited anyway.

Brittany turns 9

Yeah!!  Brittany turns 9 today.  She was so excited and was counting down for quite a while now.  She wanted me to bring donuts to her class for a celebration.  So of course I did.  I didn't have balloons this year so I put a Happy Birthday banner on the front step area.

I watched Brittany as she got off the bus to see when she would notice the banner.  As she was walking up the front sidewalk she looked up as she got to the stairs and saw it.  It was so cute to see her face light up with a huge smile.  She was excited to see it.

Got a year off for decorating a cake.  She chose this frosting, cake and decorations for it.  Kind of nice and it turned out how she wanted because she got to decorate it after school.  Oh yes and rainbow sherbet icecream.

For dinner she chose Ravioli, vege combo (beans, corn, peas, carrots), and french bread.

Present time.  The time she has been waiting for.  From Kylee she got some Monsono's.  From us she got a horse than whinnies, eats (pretend carrot), blinks it's eyes and moves it's head.  She was excited.

Jon brought home flowers for her (he also brought Kylee and I each a rose).

Kylee sang her own verion of a happy birthday song.  Hope the video worked.  If not I will have to keep trying.

These are the presents from Grandpa and Grandma Korth.  She got some Monsuno's and Angry Bird slippers.

New picture

This is the picture we received from everyone from the passing of Jon's dad.  It is currently hung above our fireplace.  We really like this picture.  Thanks!!

Korth Christmas Eve Party

These are the pictures of everything during the Christmas Eve party.  I will just leave them as self explanatory pictures.  We had musical numbers.  Grayden played his violin, Booklin played her flute, and Kylee sang a song.  Then dad did the Christmas stories for both young and old.  Of course we had great food.  Cordon Bleu, slush, eggnog, hot apple cider, and dessert.
