Four Corners and Hovenweep
Today we checked out of our hotel in Colorado and headed to Four Corners. But first we decided to head back to Mesa Verde to make sure the other loop was really closed. If it wasn't we would have gone there, it was so we got some souvenirs and took pics. Then headed out to Four Corners.
It was supposed to be about 45 min to 1 hr to get there, but we missed the turn and headed up south of Shiprock in New Mexico. Quite a way out of the way. It took about 2 1/2 hours total by the time we got to Four Corners after having to turn around. Well we got to go further into New Mexico...it was so exciting. I should have taken a picture of Shiprock since we didn't actually go there, but we were close enough the picture would have been ok.
Well we made it to Four Corners. We had a guy take our picture and then we took theirs for them.
Now we are at Hovenweep. Again it took a little longer to get to this location because we missed the sign. So we passed it. Fortunately we noticed about 10-15 min. past the turnoff so we didn't add too much time to our trip. Not sure why we kept missing the turnoffs.
It was fun to see the different sites here and again imagine the way people used to live. We were able to get closer to these dwellings so we got a better idea of how big they were and wonder how they were able to get to their houses at times.
