Annual Memorial Day trip. This
year it didn’t rain once on us. We were
all healthy as well. Not sure how we
lucked out so well this year, but I am not complaining. We had a nice time camping. It was pretty relaxing. We didn’t sit around camp that much, which is
fine with me because that is a little boring for me. The first night we got there it was about
9:00 so we had to set up in the dark and it was pretty late by the time we were
done. The kids put themselves to bed,
that was the first time they had done that camping.
The next day (Saturday) we went to the park
and waited for the Smith family to come back from the cemetery. We wanted to wait for Jon’s mom on Sunday
before we went to the cemetery. So we
walked around the park for a while looking at things. When everyone showed up we ate lunch and let
the kids play on the playground.
Brittany was funny because apparently she was ready to leave before Jon
and I so she played us. She apparently
told Jon that I said I was ready to go and then came over to where I was and
said that Jon said he was ready to go.
Neither of us had said that so we laughed when we figured that out. Instead of going back to camp and staying
there we headed up the canyon a little further to a lookout point called Devils Kitchen. We walked out to the point for a little
while. It has a nice view.

Then Jon took us to another lookout point. He showed the girls that the mountain (Mt. Nebo) we were looking at was the same mountain that grandpa used to herd sheep on when he was younger. Always a nice little family info to pass along.

On Sunday when Jon’s mom and brother (Dan Bowers) got up to
camp we headed out to the cemetery. The
girls had fun putting grandmas flowers on the graves and helping out where they
could. I think they liked that they were
the only kids there so they got to help a lot.
There are two cemeteries there that we visit. We have family at both of them. I have been going for years but I still don’t
know all the stories and who is related to who so I mentioned to Dorrine that
it needs to be written down and noted next to each grave. That is something she started a long time ago
that she said she needs to finish for everone.
After the cemeteries we went back to the park for some lunch. Jon’s mom and brother left after lunch so
the rest of us headed back up the canyon.
We kind of sat around for a while with everone at camp until it was
decided that we should all go to the little stream and wade in it. I took pictures of people playing around in
the water. Some of the adults were kind
of funny to watch as they were trying to cross without falling. I think we only had a couple people who
fell. A nice way to cool off on a hot
afternoon.

When we got back to camp it was time to begin dinner. Jon helped the girls start a fire so we could roast hotdogs and marshmallows.
After that some of the boys had their bb guns out so Jon helped Brittany and Kylee shoot for a little while. That evening it was a nice and relaxing just sitting around the camp visiting.
Monday we packed up and headed out. Not so much of a relaxing day as we are just packing up while the kids play around. On our way out of town I had Jon stop by the cemetery one more time so I could get a picture of his dads headstone. Glad we live closer now so the trip home isn’t so bad anymore.
